Preparing your home for sale is the best way to ensure that your property presents the best front when you have buyers come along, but as with anything, it takes time- and we all live busy lives.

So, by getting started now, you can do a quality job and be ready to go when the weather starts to warm.

How to Prepare Your Home for Sale in Spring

With our Spring only a month and a half away (yes! Already…), it’s a great time now to make plans, roll up your sleeves and make the place shine, so that you’re not rushing around at the last minute.

A few minor upgrades here and there can really make a huge difference, such as:

(1)   Time to Declutter

Spring cleaning, before spring! Honestly, clearing space and doing those ‘I’ll get to it soon’ projects around the house takes time (and motivation). Instead, walk around your house and think about what you can do now to make more space

For example, is it time to get rid of that extra fridge in the garage? How will I get those boxes out of here? Is it time to go through those cupboards scattered everywhere and sort out what I need, from what needs to go?

Doing this early can mean it’s not stressful and save you a lot of time (and money) when you’re moving out after it’s sold. Plus, this ok the extra space available that buyers will see and appreciate!

(2)   Make Minor Repairs

Buyers love a house that is well-maintained and repaired. Why? Because it’s less they have to do after they buy! Even better, they’re willing to pay more for it too.

Think about it – if they see tired shelves or walls that need paint, they’re immediately thinking about having to do it after they buy. However, nothing is more refreshing than going into a home and seeing it all look great! To a buyer, there’s nothing better than thinking: “I could just move in!” (even if they’re an investor).

So, clean those gutters, paint those walls, polish those floors, repair that carpet, and so on. You don’t have to go crazy! But doing those little touches now will mean you have a home that’s looking better than the rest, and the price will reflect this.

(3)   Plan Your Greenery

While Spring may be the growing season, it can only grow if you’ve set a good foundation up prior. If you wait until Spring, you’ll have a garden full of buds, and you’ll be scrambling to get everything planted around your Open Homes and photography.

Instead, plan out our garden now, buy some nice plants and pots, do the manure fertilisation thing now (before your buyers get here!) and you’ll have a garden that springs to life over the next few weeks.

Even if you have an apartment, jazz up your internal plants, plant some florals in the flower box on the veranda, and so on. Buyers love that extra touch.
